Job Summary
This position is responsible for subcontractor management and oversight of field activities on behalf of the contractor (Garcia) to include adherence to drawings and specifications, coordination of activities, oversight of safety, environmental and quality compliance, and contract management support.
Role / Responsibilities
- Safely execute daily work production and ensure compliance with safe work and environmental work practices.
- Knowledge and understanding of environmental permits and supporting the team in enforcing permit requirements.
- Meet with incoming sub-contractors to coordinate needs prior to site arrival.
- Support implementation of contracts from a field perspective.
- Perform daily observations and record in logbook to include Garcia’s subcontractor(s) and vendor(s) activities.
- Monitor contractor performance against schedules and milestones.
- Review estimates as they relate to project site.
- Track site specific change requests and escalate to Director of Construction.
- Review subcontractor’s pay applications to verify accuracy of completion rate.
- Attend project meetings, all safety meetings, stand-downs, or related functions/activities.
- Demonstrate model behavior by:
- Being fully proficient with contract language.
- Holding Garcia subcontractors accountable to contract deliverables.
- Prioritizing all safety items accordingly.
- Ensuring all issues are promptly relayed to the Director of Construction.
- Incorporating the schedule into daily processes and always maintaining access.
- Conduct daily field oversight for contractor with a focus on quality to include:
- Attending pre-job briefs for Garcia’s subcontractor(s) or vendor(s).
- Spending a targeted amount time (approximately 80%) in the field.
- Performing oversight of field inspections to include intrusive questioning on nonstandard activities.
- Addressing project barriers for the contractor.
- Monitoring performance by the Garcia subcontractors.
- Maintaining an intrusive focus regarding nonstandard activities and /or changes in the plan from the Plan of The Day.
- Represent Garcia with high integrity, a team-oriented perspective, and emphasis on successful relationship building, consistent with core values.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by Director of Construction.
Experience / Skills Required
- 5+ years’ experience or an equivalent of higher education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards, government safety and occupational health and safety requirements.
- Sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Desire to self-manage and assume ownership over job responsibilities.
- Strong organizational, time management and planning skills.
- Ability to communicate, professionally, in both oral and written format.
- Excellent recordkeeping abilities.
- Demonstrate highest degree of integrity and confidentiality.
- Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License, a clean driving record, and a reliable mode of transportation.
Experience / Skills Desired
- Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish).
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Lift at least 50 lbs. regularly or as otherwise established due to physical limitations.
- Endure continuous standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing on a regular basis.
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours and weekends in response to short-term company needs and/or emergencies.
- Ability to travel throughout job sites as required.
- Ability to access heights above ground level via ladders, construction equipment, etc.
- Ability to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, safety shoes, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, fall protection harness or other personal protective equipment in designated areas of risk.
- Ability to work outside in varying weather and temperature conditions.
